About Horsecompendium and me…

Somehow, I have managed to find myself the proud carer of two ponies, something I never thought possible when I look back on my former life in my home town of London. Even though I fled the big smoke some 12 years ago, I still let my mind wander back to my pony-less life in the metropolis; lonely days and nights in bed-sit land, with a redundant and crooked baby-belling in the corner of the room, feeling a bit queasy after yet another take-away that I vowed I wouldn’t buy. Well, anything was preferable to firing up that death-trap baby belling.

In that bed-sit, horses were a welcome escape for my tired mind, my dreams were a tad cheesy but heartfelt, dreams of spending every day in wellies and my imaginary horse spying me at the gate as I brought him/her his breakfast, and then galloping towards me in greeting - cue the Black Beauty music. And then I would wake up to the sounds of the named strangers I lived with going about their morning rituals, traffic already reaching noise pollution level outside my window, and the greasy scrunched up wrapper from my take-away the night before. No more horses.

So why did I let this carry on? Why spend every day in a place I hated, and clearly didn’t fit into? It was one of those ‘been there most of my life, not sure how to get out’ situations. My family was there too…

But when I fled, it was with a sudden burst of realisation, that actually, I didn’t have to be in London - I could simply leave. One day, standing in the pouring rain on grimy Archway Road, North London, waiting for a bus to take me somewhere else that I didn’t want to go to, the realisation hit me, and within a month, I was gone….

Now when I am out riding in the crisp early Somerset mornings, I think back to those days, and I can hardly believe that instead of looking out over London from my bed-sit window, I’m looking out over the dew-sparkled hills of Somerset from the back of my palomino mare.

My relationship with horses began when I was four, before we moved to London for my father’s work. The ponies I have now were both rescued and I hope to be able to pass on some of the knowledge I have learned with them in this blog.

I also now run an online equestrian shop. I have put some of the products here in pages on this blog. The product pages are not particularly inspiring to read, but it’s not easy to describe a product in a poetic way! However, for those of you who are looking for horse tack or rider wear, it’s realistically priced, not over-priced and I take pride in it. I believe in treating people as I would have them treat me.
